The town of Worcester is surrounded by 3 mountain ranges and the Breede and Hex Rivers flow on either side of the town. Summer day temperatures can reach in excess of 40 degrees Centigrade, whilst the winters are cold and wet with the occasional snowfall on the high mountain peaks. The valley around Worcester is home to both the largest wine producing as well as table grape producing areas of South Africa. Worcester is the capital of the Breede Valley and lies on the main route to and from Cape Town. Being so centrally situated an hour from Cape Town, Hermanus, Montagu and Touws River, and even less from Paarl, Tulbagh and Ceres, Worcester is a central hub for industry, shopping and tourism. Commercial Developments like the Mountain Mill Mall and Golden Valley Casino have enhanced the town's popularity as the main commercial centre of the Breede Valley, attracting clientele from as far afield as Sutherland. The Town is a major training and teaching centre famous for its large deaf and blind communities. Outdoor activities include mountaineering, hiking, mountain biking, trout fishing and much more. Good dual medium schools, excellent medical facilities as well as a Retirement Village (with Frail Care Centre) makes this a town where you can still enjoy a country lifestyle blended with all the comforts and conveniences of modern day living.
