About Pecanwood Golf Estate

When immersed in the hustle and bustle of city life it seems hard to imagine that the ideal escape is situated less than an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Pecanwood Estate and Pecanwood Golf and Country Club, situated on the banks of Hartbeespoort Dam and nestled in the rolling hills of the picturesque Magaliesberg Mountains, adds a new dimension to the concept of rest and relaxation.

It's beautiful green postures and tranquil atmosphere, makes Pecanwood the recommended dose of relaxation for the hard workers of today.

What’s more, this prestigious development is home to South Africa’s first Jack Nicklaus signature golf course. It offers a unique combination of superb climate, outdoor activities and residential excellence that result in a lifestyle experience which many aspire to.

In 1992 Maccon purchased an agricultural farm on the banks of Hartbeespoort Dam with a view to creating one of South Africa's first golf estates. The name was inspired by the grove of pecan nut trees on the property.

At the outset, the golf course was to be locally designed and planned, but following discussions with Jack Nicklaus Design, as well as investigation into the investment value and return of using a well respected golf professional to design the golf course, a deal was concluded, which saw Jack Nicklaus' expertise become an important aspect of the project.

The necessary approvals were obtained and the project kicked off in 1996 with the building of three show houses, which could be accessed by a dirt road running through the estate.

Soon after the launch of Pecanwood Estate, Country Heights Holdings Berhard, a property development company listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange, concluded a partnership agreement with Maccon that saw both parties as joint venture partners in the project.

Golf Data, the representatives for Jack Nicklaus in South Africa, were contracted to build the challenging golf course that has been identified as one of South Africa's top golf courses in numerous surveys.

From the design and development of a highly sophisticated irrigation and drainage system and the selection of suitable grass for top quality greens and tees, to the design of bunkers that ensure a challenging course, nothing was left to chance. Many have described the development of the golf course as a scientific experience, when compared to the construction techniques used before.

A total of 1 000 000 cubic metres of soil was used to transform the property from a relatively flat piece of land into one of topographical interest.

Jack Nicklaus remained very involved in all stages of the project, so much so that he appointed Greg Letsche, one of his senior architects, on a full time basis in South Africa to monitor all stages of construction.

The course initially opened as a 9-hole course with a temporary clubhouse, which was utilised for a period of two years until the award winning clubhouse was completed in April 1999.

Since its launch, Pecanwood Estate with its Golf and Country Club has established itself as a benchmark for golf estates in South Africa. Moreover, the development also served as a catalyst for tremendous growth in the area.

Ten years down the line, Pecanwood Estate has developed into the five-star estate the developers envisioned it should be, and now all owners and members involved in the estate share the aim of maintaining and improving on what has been created.

North West Province MapInvest in the fastest growing Province in South Africa! Join other international and local major corporations in the North West Province as your preferred establishment destination.

The North West Province of South Africa is bounded on the north by Botswana, on the south by the provinces of Free State and the Northern Cape, and on the northeast and east by the Limpopo Province and Gauteng.

The North West Province consists out of the 4 following districts:

  1. Bophirima District Municipality
  2. Bojanala Platinum District Municipality
  3. Central District Municipality
  4. Southern District Municipality

Much of the province consists of flat areas of scattered trees and grassland. The Magaliesberg mountain range in the northeast extends about 130 km (about 80 miles) from Pretoria to Rustenburg. The Vaal River flows along the southern border of the province.

Mafikeng, formerly Mafeking, serves as the provincial capital. Other significant towns include Brits, Klerksdorp, Lichtenburg, Potchefstroom, Rustenburg and Sun City. The province has two universities: the University of North West, which was formerly called the University of Bophuthatswana (founded in 1979), in Mmabatho; and Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education.

The mainstay of the economy of North West Province is mining, which generates more than half of the province's gross domestic product and provides jobs for a quarter of its workforce. The chief minerals are gold, mined at Orkney and Klerksdorp; uranium, mined at Klerksdorp; platinum, mined at Rustenburg and Brits; and diamonds, mined at Lichtenburg, Christiana, and Bloemhof. The northern and western parts of the province have many sheep farms and cattle and game ranches. The eastern and southern parts are crop-growing regions that produce maize (corn), sunflowers, tobacco, cotton, and citrus fruits. The entertainment and casino complex at Sun City and Lost City also contributes to the provincial economy.

Hartbeespoort is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The town consists mainly of holiday homes around the dam as it is popular with visitors from nearby Gauteng Province.

Location is one of the North West Province’s greatest natural advantages. Mafikeng, the provincial capital, is a staging post for rail and road traffic into the sub-continent.

The main Cape Town to Zimbabwe railway line passes through Mafikeng via Botswana, with a feeder line to Angola. In terms of roads, the vital east-west corridor linking Maputo on the Eastern African seaboard and Walvis Bay on the Western African seaboard, runs through the North West Province.

The Province’s positioning will be further augmented by the planned Trans-Kalahari corridor through Botswana and Namibia, truly justifying its claim as South Africa’s gateway into Africa.

Using this natural position, the perspective investor can attain cost effective proximity to ideal trading environments throughout the entire Southern African Development Community (SADC), which offers a market of more than 150 million people.

Alternatively, investors could take advantage of the dynamic business prospects available in the North West Province through its vast mineral resources, established manufacturing base, appealing tourist industry and agricultural abundance.

A naturally beautiful area, the North West Province encapsulates the full scale of human development in one Province – one can retrace the footsteps of the earliest inhabitants on earth and follow that development right through to sophisticated technology based manufacturing.

The North West Province accounts for roughly 10% of South Africa’s land mass and from the very dawn of time, this area has been a magnet for many different cultures. Today, its rich cultural diversity is reflected in its population of 3,5 million people, 8,9% of South Africa’s entire population.

There are many opportunities for increasing the income-producing capacities of the local industries, enhancing product beneficiation within the Province and participating more fully in the myriad of international markets linked to the region’s natural resources.
