Welcome to Midrand, a modern residential and commercial city in Gauteng, South Africa. With its strategic situation between Johannesburg and Pretoria along the N1 highway northward of the Jukskei River, Midrand is by far a fastest growing residential and commercial town in the province. Unlike its neighbouring towns that were established as a result of the Gauteng gold rush, Midrand grew from two urban towns namely Olifantsfontein and Halfway House. In early 1980 all these towns were incorporated into a single administration, the Midrand Municipality.
In 2000, Midrand and its respective suburbs such as Carlswald, Crowthorne, Glen Austin, Halfway House, Halfway Gardens, Kyalami, Vorna Valley and Randjesfontein to name a few, were incorporated into the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.
Midrand has 62 active suburbs.
