The Riebeek Valley comprises of Riebeek Kasteel, Riebeek West and Ongegund, all nestled on the Northern slopes of the 966m high Kasteelberg and surrounded by undulating vineyards. It is steeped in history, from the Griquas to the Sonquas and with both statesmen, Smuts and Malan being born here.

It is a Valley of 4 distinct seasons, the lush, green of the vineyards almost in contrast to the hot, dry summers...... Autumns are beautiful with golden reds as the vines shut down after a long season of production, a fitting prelude to the winter chill as the snow capped peaks of the not too distant mountains, chase the cosmopolitan residents into any of 20 diverse restaurants, with their equally imaginative menus. Spring bursts into a multitude of floral colours and songs of birds as different as the fish eagle, bee eaters and gymnogene, to the diederick's cuckoo. What started as a hamlet re-discovered, almost re-pioneered in the early 90's by free thinking, creative young people, who opened their own familiar pubs, became a trendy weekend venue and now although far more well known, the Riebeek Valley still offers the country retreat and village atmosphere away from the city, yet with more of the creature comforts which the city provides.
