Edition 29 of 2004, Friday 30 July 2004

Dear Reader,

This week the announcement by the South African Reserve Bank regarding the issue of new R5 and R2 coins was well accepted. The new R5 coin is the first bi-metal coin of South African currency, and the first local coin to have edge lettering with an edged security groove. The R2 coin commemorates South Africa's ten years of democracy through the use of the 10 Years of Freedom logo. These new coins will be available at banks from Monday 2 August 2004.

How often don't we tell our children not to stop dreaming..

Have you ever dreamed about a $38 million Palm Beach mansion or a New York's Long Island estate for $75 million? An estate that has a U.S.G.A.-rated golf course, with nine drilled holes designed to be played in both directions; a 25,000-square-foot main house; 65 acres; and three ponds, one of which is so large it's described as lakelike? Well we are going to take that dream with you, Most expensive houses in America 2003

Surrounded by the majesty of the Magaliesberg mountain range, Hartbeespoortdam is very popular for weekend getaways or day trips . . In Focus on we take a look at what is happening in Hartebeespoortdam, North West, South Africa.

Did you know that there is no way to make a quick buck, especially in property, which is always an excellent long-term investment? Listed property a safer bet.

Ever thought about leaving town? Leaving country Life? I recently read a brilliant article by Charmain Naidoo. She writes: 'I miss walking into Mr Scorrano with my Jamie Oliver book and pointing out a cut of beef I want him to prepare for me. I miss the milk which is cheap, rich and thick with cream. I miss what I call the Zastron finger - where every car you pass on the town streets you greet with a waggle of a finger. I miss the fact that there are no queues. I miss the yellow veld, frosty mornings. I miss my stoep with its perfect view of the mountain and the church steeple..." Read more in Have Fun

And that concludes this weeks edition of CyberProp.com

Desirable' Bloemfontein market is blooming at last

WITH most residential property pundits focusing on the Cape Town and Johannesburg property markets, scant regard has been paid to Bloemfontein.

But Bloemfontein is experiencing a boom of its own, and estate agents there attribute this to factors such as an emerging black middle class, a shortage of land and low interest rates.

>> Solid base seen for SA economic growth

The groundwork has been laid for the South African economic environment to match that of the boom of the sixties, says Old Mutual Asset Managers' Alwyn van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe said this was a good thing for the country's post democracy economy.

"South Africa is no longer marginalised," he said, comparing the situation with those in countries such as Zimbabwe which experienced stagflation and volatility...

>> Most expensive homes in America 2003

Although not one of the properties from our 2002 list of the Most Expensive Homes in America has sold, that hasn't stopped some Americans from putting their homes on the market at even higher prices.

>> Listed property a safer bet

WITH the buy-to-let property market softening in some areas of SA, the average investor with surplus capital is advised to consider investing in the less risky listed property sector.

The listed property sector is strictly regulated and many of the listed property funds' managers have a wealth of experience in commercial property.

Another option, if an investor does not want to buy listed property stocks directly, is to go through a unit trust that invests in the listed property sector on behalf of investors.

Leaving town, Country Life - by Charmain Naidoo

By Thursday, Muffie was puffing in annoyance. Hendrik was perplexed. He couldn't help. Not today anyway. And probably not tomorrow either. He was carefully holding up the two pieces of glass, one with a crack that curled and meandered towards an explosion of shards. The other with a blunt straight edge.
