• Twenty-one-year-old Leigh disappeared from outside Bond University in Sandton on Friday July 9. Her family had been trying everything to get her back. Police on Wednesday afternoon confirmed that 21-year-old Leigh Matthews, missing for almost two weeks, is dead.
• The WINE magazine TOPS at SPAR Shiraz Challenge announced its arrival as an event of stature from the outset. The top-scoring wines will be showcased to the public at tutored tastings at the Arabella Sheraton Hotel in Cape Town and the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on 27 August and 3 September respectively
• It may be only a matter of time before local courts are asked to award damages for workplace discrimination. This view of employment-law experts Shelley Wilson and Talita Laubscher, from the Sandton law firm Bowman Gilfillan, follow last week's massive settlement in the United States by Wall Street firm Morgan Stanley.

Foreign land ownership talks to continue

Government signaled on Wednesday that the public debate about foreign ownership of land in the country would continue.

Speaking after the regular meeting of the cabinet in Pretoria, government spokesperson Joel Netshitenzhe told a media briefing that the meeting was informed of "on-going work towards the launch of a public discussion on the matter of foreign land ownership in South Africa".

THE need to give Sandton a specific identity has led to the creation of Sandton Central, a hub of businesses in the area bounded by Grayston and Sandton drives, and Rivonia Road.
