There is growing demand from SA’s super rich, including a substantial number of blacks, for luxury “fractional” developments, a relatively new concept in the country. “What makes it really different is that it is hospitality real estate and it comes with all the services one would expect in a four- or five-star hotel, such as a concierge service,” says Robert Kroger, portfolio manager for the Registry Collection’s Africa division. >> Real Estate News – South Africa - Residential prices continues to slow

The increases in residential real estate prices continued to slow during the course of 2006, the South African Reserve Bank said.

The year-on-year rate of increase in the prices of residential property in the middle segment of the market, as measured by Absa, decelerated uninterruptedly from 35.5% in September 2004 to 13.6% in August 2006, the SARB noted in its latest quarterly economic bulletin...

>> Castles for sale

When Richard Gaylord tells people he lives in a castle, few believe him.

"But it really is one," the developer protests. "We've got the turrets and all. I'm a stickler for detail, and I don't like doing things in half measure."

Castle ownership isn't for everyone, what with the heating costs, potential for plumbing problems and general conspicuousness of the structures. Gaylord's home isn't an ancient stronghold--he only recently put the finishing touches on his Elizabethan-style castle, which occupies a couple of the 170 acres at Camelot, a themed development he created in Durban, South Africa...

Your day in court?
Tue, 19 Sep 2006

It is not the job of the Court to set neighbourhood aesthetic standards or rule on what is aesthetic or not.

That's the view of Deputy Judge President of the Cape, Justice Jeanette Traverso, speaking on the issues of neighbour law at the annual strb Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes Property Convention.
