Edition 19 of 2004, Friday 21 May 2004

Dear Reader,

Yebo! South Africa is to host!

This must have been the biggest news this week but it was not all. An official of the Department of Minerals and Energy confirmed on Tuesday that soaring international crude oil prices could drive local fuel prices up by between 30 to 40 cents a litre, taking it to R5.

We also read about the prediction made by a German royal expert that Britain's Prince Charles and his long-time companion Camilla Parker-Bowles will marry in Scotland in the coming autumn.

And on a sad note we read that more than 80 cases of child abuse are reported in South Africa's capital, Pretoria, each month.

Today in CyberProp.com you are going to read about the following:

  • the importance of ensuring that you have adequate insurance cover in the event of your death, illness or unemployment - mortgage insurance
  • the City on the Sterkloop River that is "the" service and trading centre in the Northern Province - Pietersburg - Polokwane
  • the value of a well-locked-up-garage
  • how you can brighten up your winter garden with colourful berries

Not too be missed is a flow diagram taking you through the process of buying a property.

Once again a newsletter packed with valuable information. Enjoy!

CyberProp greetings!

1 US$ equals 6.9 SA rand

I’ve come to the conclusion that property in South Africa is now among the best bargains in the world, in both absolute and relative terms.

Everything in South Africa is cheap right now.

A meal will cost you about a third of what you’d pay for the same thing in the United States.

Beachfront property is proportionately cheaper again. More like 5% to 10% of its U.S. equivalent...

Insights from Bridgeway Limited

Bond Switching – What’s it all about?

The current environment has seen the lowering of interest rates combined with significant increases in the value of residential property in most areas. This has lead to a strong trend in the home-loan market where home-owners are:

re-financing their home-loans at highly competitive rates; and
obtaining greater home-loans based on the increased value of their property, thereby gaining access to surplus funds.
Kevin Cimring of Bridgeway says that in certain circumstances this may present an effective financial planning opportunity...

>> Is mortgage insurance essential?

Experts believe the South African property market is still booming, with many properties enjoying up to 20 percent year-on-year increase in value. Amidst this growth, there is an increasing need for property buyers to understand the risks associated with property ownership. Raising the awareness amongst homeowners will hopefully change consumer behaviour and help eradicate home repossession...

"House hunting can be a fascinating activity — it’s the only time that you can walk into a stranger’s home and snoop around without fear of arrest. But, as much as it may satisfy your voyeuristic traits it can also become a long and arduous task. Once you have found your perfect home there are more choices to be made; not least of which is finding the best deal on a bond.." says Iona Minton

Brighten Up Your Winter Garden With colourful Berries

Just because the trees are bare and there is snow on the ground doesn't mean that your garden has to become a winter wasteland. A well-planned garden will provide year-round interest and visual treats. Many evergreens and hardy ornamental grasses can be quite stunning in the colder months.

But perhaps nothing can compare to the vibrant color of berries during the winter. Berry palates range from bright red to yellow to pale blue and white, so there is something sure to please your eye. Many berries will also attract a variety of birds to your garden. Here are a few suggestions for hardy berry-bearing beauties that can provide a bit of pizzazz to the drab winter landscape.

>> The value of a well-built-lock-up-garage

Never underestimate the value of a well-built lock-up garage - preferably for two cars or more - when selling a house or townhouse in the current market.

Dr Piet Botha, chairman of the Nationlink estate agency group, says changing lifestyles and the popularity of twincab bakkies and other recreational vehicles means that in many residential sales a good roomy garage has moved up from a desirable feature to an essential requirement.
