Dear Reader

One thing was clear after last week’s newsletter, 2010 is set to be one of the most historic years in the history of South Africa. All we must do is to capitalize from it.

Headlines: John Loos, property strategist FNB Home Loans; the value of your house that is most properly your biggest asset fell by about 4% in 2009. 2010 and this year your asset will work better for you. "Bad news first. The FNB House price Index showed the average house price for 2009 declining by -3.9% for the year as a whole, when compared to the average price for 2008. The good news, though, is that late in the year the index was firmly on an improving trend, with December 2009 showing further rise in year-on-year house price inflation to record +2.7%". Market news: One of the most positive aspects of the SA property market right now is the decline in the number of homeowners planning to emigrate. This phenomenon, identified in research by FNB, arguably accounts to some extent for the current upturn in the fortunes of the market says Colleen Gray, MD of CENTURY 21 South Africa, in that there are fewer desperate sellers. Drop in emigration sellers positive for SA. Drop in emigration sellers positive for SA

Even though there are a lot of rental properties available at the moment, finding a quality affordable apartment can be a daunting task. However, says Berry Everitt, CEO of the Chas Everitt International property group, there are things you can do to make the search easier, starting with some “scouting” to see what areas appeal to you and will fit your lifestyle. How to choose a rental property

Thank you! Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty Knysna along with Mugg & Bean Knysna would like to say a huge “Thank You” to the generosity shown by the Knysna community in helping make this last Christmas a extra special one for hundreds of less fortunate children.

Enjoy!
