Edition 18 of 2004, Friday 14 May 2004 Dear Reader, Once again thousands of South Africans will be glued to their television sets on Saturday, 15 May. The question, will we host the Soccer World Cup 2010? South Africa's bid to host the World Cup scored top marks from FIFA's inspection committee. South Africa is among five African countries competing to win the right to host in 2010, and most commentators have put South Africa or Morocco as the hottest favorites. BUT as we know, it is not over until the last ball was bowled or shall I say, until the last ball was kicked! I wonder what will happen with the real estate industry should South Africa get to host the World Cup. GOVERNMENT involvement in the property charter process is essential for its success, says the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners. Charter needs government involvement GOVERNMENT involvement in the property charter process is essential for its success, says the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners. Institute spokesman Andy Tondi says the charter is similar to the mining
charter in that it deals with the "core of our liberation struggle",
which if not addressed properly now it will "come back on us in the
future". |
| >> Buyers want bank assessors to scrutinise properties! |
|
There are quite a number of buyers that bought properties and obtained a loan through the bank which was assessed by a valuer or assessor from the bank to ascertain if the banks investment was safe. Says Anthony van der Riet, Managing Director of REALTY EXECUTIVES South Africa. |
| >> Focus on the Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route, Western Cape, South Africa |
|
The Garden Route has a Mediterranean Maritime climate, with moderately
hot summers, and mild to chilly winters. It is one of the richest rainfall
areas, most of which occurs in the winter months, brought by the humid
sea-winds from the Indian ocean. Any time of the year is good for visiting
the area, depending if you enjoy a peaceful retreat during the winter
months or a bustling holiday destination during the summer.

| >> Appeal court ruling on views halts developments |
|
THE landmark Paola case heard in the Supreme Court of Appeal in October last year continues to halt developments which risk impinging on a neighbouring property 's view. Last year the appeal court ruled that the view from a house was integral
to the value of the property. The court also ruled that if a city council
approved building plans that would spoil a neighbour's view, it was infringing
on the rights of the affected owner and such plans should not be approved.
