During the month of August Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas received a lot of rain and in a few areas a lot of water damage. Here is how we experienced it. On the 1st of August we experienced heavy rains in our area coming from the general direction of Cape Town/George area. Most of our South African clients would recall the news casts on TV. In Plettenberg Bay the areas most affected was the upper areas from Forever Resorts to just past Stanley Island. Now most of you know that Barney and myself owns property in the area and when we got there that evening our boat with its trailer was drifting in about 1,5m of water! Other parts in Plettenberg Bay affected were the lower parts of Longships and off Longships Drive, and of course the Piesang River Valley. (Not River Club area) Wittedrift was cut of from civilization for about three days with water running over the road. On the 17th of August Barney and I decided to visit our office and house in Hanover with the hope of driving through some snow on the way. Well that never happened! What we did find was that the Prins Alfred's Pass was totally washed away at some places. Small streams turned into raging rivers that washed away roads, bridges and tons of top soil. You can just imagine where that all ended up. It ended up in our beautiful Keurbooms River. Today, almost a month later, you can still see the damages. Have a close look at our photos. And today, while I am typing this article, it's still raining! For those who are concerned about their properties - You need not have to worry. We are keeping a close eye on the situation.

| >> Have Fun - Local is Lekker with Home Grown on The Home Channel |
|
South Africans are mad about gardening, and in response to audience demand for a local gardening programme, The Home Channel is proud to present a new, weekly gardening show. Home Grown debuts this weekend (2nd and 3rd September) and is presented by well-known South African landscape designer and gardener Juanita Knox.
Home Grown will focus on two distinct aspects, namely landscaping and show gardens. This allows viewers to enjoy the how to of gardening while providing excellent examples of established gardens.
Episodes focusing on landscaping will include everything from the consultation with the client to the final reveal, when the client gets to see the end result. This process will cover topics such as the drawing up of blue prints, plant selection, choosing garden accessories, the budget and how the landscape project actually takes shape.
Episodes on show gardens will take viewers on a journey from humble beginnings to pristine examples of horticultural design and form. Juanita will reflect on client brief, limitations of the property, plant selection, cost involved and she will interview the garden owners on how they feel about the end result.
Each episode will feature a section dedicated to Juanitas weekly tip, sponsored by SA Gardening Magazine. This weekly Notebook will highlight one key point to be jotted down and implemented for gardening success. SA Gardening Magazine will also feature a monthly article covering a similar topic to an episode of Home Grown, allowing readers the opportunity to find out more about a specific style of garden design or certain plants, garden features or planting advice.
Home Grown, presented by Juanita Knox is broadcast on The Home Channel, DStv 55. Saturdays 3pm and 10pm and Sunday 9am and 5pm Artivle from: www.thehomechannel.co.za |
