Although the rand was stronger yesterday trading at about
R7,84 to the dollar and up from R7,98 on Wednesday confidence in
SA's economy is under mounting pressure. It is widely expected that
the Reserve Bank will raise interest rates when its monetary policy
committee meets next week.
Absa - House price growth in September was the lowest in
more than six years, according to the Absa House Price Index (HPI)
and the outlook continues to look bleak. Absa forecasts nominal
year-on-year price growth of between 7% and 8% next year, which
will be the lowest since 1999 when it was 4,6%. Lowest growth
in seven-years forecast for next year
Standard Bank - According to Standard Bank's latest residential
property gauge, house price data continued to reflect
"softening consumer activity". Standard Bank also reported
"substantially reduced enthusiasm for buy-to-let properties
from investors". This meant a "relatively bleak"
outlook for further expansion in the housing market. SA's
