FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Reader

The festive season has come and gone. It seems like only yesterday we were all preparing for Christmas and a little “downtime”. We hope your holiday was relaxed and enjoyable.
The New Year is upon us and a new outlook on life and business faces us. How will you enter the new year – with a refreshed outlook? We certainly hope so.

According to the latest research, it would seem that South Africa is in a good position to grab the new year by those proverbial “horns” .

“After weathering the global economic downturn in 2008 and 2009, South Africa's economy is on the mend and has shown modest recovery in early 2010. The country is expected to register gross domestic product (GDP) growth rates between 3 per cent and 4 per cent between 2011 and 2014. The sectors that are likely to grow the most are the manufacturing, finance, real estate and business services sectors. The economy will be shored up by the strengthening of the local manufacturing sector, due to the governments commitment to development. It will also be bolstered by the relatively high levels of foreign direct investment (FDI) that has stimulated the finance, real estate and business services sectors as well as the recovery of the building and construction sector after the slowdown of 2009.” Read more

So it would seem that we are in a prime position to make the most of 2011.

We hope your 2011 is prosperous and enriching. Enjoy your year.

Enjoy!

Hello

Please give me more information on rental insurance for my investment properties.

Vikki Mamvura-gava

Buy rental insurance. If your tenant absconds you are covered for a certain period of time. I have discovered two companies that offer rental insurance: one has pure insurance and the other is a company that handles the rentals as well:

TenRisk - Tenrisk, in conjunction with Hollard and qualified legal experts, has designed the Landlord Protection Policy – a sorted new insurance solution for landlords, guaranteeing their rental income and managing the legal process around tenant eviction. Contact Colin Crous on 0861 254 254.
