Edition 8 of 2005, Friday, 4 Maart 2005

Dear Reader,

THE City of Joburg Property Company, the property arm of the City of Johannesburg, will launch a public proposal call on 24 March 2005 for more than R400m worth of new development in Soweto. This project is called the "Orlando Ekhay project" and will include retail, entertainment and educational facilities, as well as parks and is for sure a development to keep an eye on.

Many new homebuyers are confused by the difference between occupation and possession of their property - and by the provisions in a sale agreement for the payment of occupational rent.
David Rogers, MD of Homenet, gives his explanation in Five Star Home Buyer's Advice from Homenet

Land cost will not come down! Building costs will not come down! Sanitary ware, light fittings, tiles and cement will not come down!

Now is the time to buy...This is what one of our agencies, Jan Minnie of Valley Estates shares with you the reader in his newsletter.

This week www.places.co.za takes us to one of the coldest places in south Africa. Near the Drakensberg escarpment and 210km east of Pretoria, is where you will find Belfast. The wattle and bluegum plantations are the oldest in Mpumalanga. Read more in Focus on.

Enjoy!

Property prices taper off

The massive growth in property prices is now tapering off leaving the property market at risk of over-trading, property specialists warned on Monday.

>> The Property Game - The 1993 Chinese Property Bubble!

Supplied by Dave Welmans www.thepropertygame.co.za

Love is blind, and greed is insatiable. -Chinese proverb.

Investment bubbles whether they involve stocks, tea or tulips are a fascinating study. The story of the South Sea bubble has been well chronicled but it took place so long ago that few people can recall it with any accuracy. Due to scant information, the investment blunders of old often revolved around ludicrous propositions that seem obviously foolish to us now. We tend to think that we are a little wiser today but many people still get caught up in the quest for a quick buck. The Kubus Culture scam, the Hamilton Airship crash, the Masterbond bust and the myriad of cash pyramid schemes have all made their marks (or rather dents) on South African pockets.

>> Property boom lifts mortage advances to record

From one of our readers:

MORTGAGE advances in SA increased 24,8% year on year in January, the highest recorded growth recorded since May 1989 when it was 24,9%.

>> The Difference Between Occupation And Possession Of Property

Many new homebuyers are confused by the difference between occupation and possession of their property - and by the provisions in a sale agreement for the payment of occupational rent.

>> Focus on Belfast, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Belfast is one of the coldest places in South Africa and remowned for its trout fishing and highveld scenery.

Near the Drakensberg escarpment and 210km east of Pretoria, Belfast is one of the coldest places in South Africa. The grassveld district is known for cattle, dairy and sheep farming. The wattle and bluegum plantations are the oldest in Mpumalanga.
