Edition 21 of 2004, Thursday 03 June 2004

Dear Reader,

The South African rand extended its rally on Wednesday becoming the best performing currency against the US dollar on a year-to-date basis with a 4.9% gain for the year. Indeed good news for those of us traveling to the USA. But, some of us are not so lucky and will have to stay at home bracing the cold winter.

We wish the CyberProp team a safe return!

Staying at home? Let me use this opportunity to educate you in this weeks edition of CyberProp.com.

Jan van Riebeeck, I am sure that most of you can remember this famous name. The man who literally placed South Africa's name on the "map" in the year 1652. BUT, did you know that the name "Hout Bay" (Wood Bay) was given by Jan van Riebeeck? Read more in Focus on Hout Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.

Do you know how to buy and sell what is probably your most valuable possession? RealEstate101 is going to put you back at the school desk - Amazing what they don't teach you at school

One of our CyberBonds consultants Aliza shares 10 tips to owning your own home - The mortgage process

My favorite for the week - Complain about bad service says council. The South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession says investors in listed property funds should complain to it if they think valuations done by property valuers have not been carried out properly.

Truly an educational week for all of us. Enjoy!

CyberProp greetings!

Insights from Bridgeway Limited

Bond Switching – What’s it all about?

The current environment has seen the lowering of interest rates combined with significant increases in the value of residential property in most areas. This has lead to a strong trend in the home-loan market where home-owners are:

  • re-financing their home-loans at highly competitive rates; and
  • obtaining greater home-loans based on the increased value of their property, thereby gaining access to surplus funds.

Kevin Cimring of Bridgeway says that in certain circumstances this may present an effective financial planning opportunity...

>> Amazing what they don't teach you at school!

Isn’t it astounding that you can spend many years at school or even at university and never learn the basics of how to buy and sell your first home?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to learn from experts – rather than having to rely on the advice of friends and family?

For these reasons, we’ve created RealEstate101 – a one-day seminar teaching first-time buyers and sellers how to buy and sell what is probably their most valuable possession.

>> Focus on Hout Bay, Western Cape, South Africa
Hout Bay is one of the most beautiful and popular places on the Cape Peninsula and a highlight of any visit to Cape Town. The access road that runs from Camps Bay, offers a beautiful drive all along the sea. The town lies picturesquely in a wind-protected bay, surrounded in the west by the Karbonkel Mountain, the famous Mount Sentinel as the outpost in the sea and in the east, by the Constantia Mountains and Chapman's Peak.

"Please give my compliments to whoever built this great website. As Americans coming to Cape Town to holiday and look for real estate, Cyberprop is very user-friendly, logically organized, includes great color photographs; all in all it is by far the best of the real estate websites we have seen. I will focus my attention on properties presented on this website, as it will probably give me more than I can possible look at while in Cape Town. Cheers! Col. Mike & Libby Haas, Reno, Nevada"
