In the area 1 – Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay is definitely known for its beauty and unspoiled sandy beaches. “Plett”, as it’s known by the locals, is absolute bliss for nature lovers and property investors looking for a tranquil setting among indigenous forests and a mountainous backdrop, says Cheryl Anley, Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Prime Properties, which services the Plettenberg Bay area.

It is easy to see why the Plett is one of South Africa’s prime holiday destinations with its superb climate and more than adequate amount of activities to choose from, whether you want to soak up the sun while whale watching or enjoy a meal at one of the many seaside restaurants overlooking the Indian Ocean - there is something for everyone.

“Plettenberg Bay offers property buyers a resort-like lifestyle and many local and foreign investors have chosen this ‘jewel of the Garden Route’ as their home. We have a number of buyers looking to purchase holiday homes and primary residences in the bay. The many species of dolphins and whales, the Robberg Nature Reserve and Tsitsikamma National Park, coupled with proximity to amenities make the area attractive to investors,” says Anley.

According to Anley, many of the property investors are opting for secure estates due to the lifestyle benefits they provide. Buyers can enjoy nature and the ocean views, while still enjoying the secure lifestyle estates offer. The designs of many of the estates have taken the surroundings into consideration and careful attention has been paid to ensure that the aesthetics complement the natural beauty of the area.

Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, says: “Ocean-fronting and facing properties and those situated in secure gated estates often achieve good investment results and Plettenberg Bay offers buyers the best of both worlds.”

One such estate is Brackenridge Private Estate, which is a 128 hectare nature reserve consisting of 280 up-market, freehold private residential properties. Only a third of the estate has been developed with housing, leaving the remaining grounds to flourish with indigenous fynbos and a variety of bird and small animal life.

“Situated five minutes from the city centre and next to Plett Golf and Country Club, Brackenridge is a sought after development. It is divided into five separate phases, all of which are subject to the building control guidelines ensuring the estate aesthetics are upheld. Homeowners in the estate have the benefit of the wide open spaces while still having the security of strict access control measures, personal security patrol and a six kilometre state-of-the-art electrified fence,” says Anley.

Stand sizes in the estate range from approximately 1300m2 to around 1700m2 leaving plenty of space for natural vegetation and buyers can either opt to buy a vacant stand or an existing home. Pricing of the vacant stands starts at R350 000, while house prices at present range from R 2,95 million for entry level homes up to R10,68 million for the high-end properties. There are currently 100 completed homes with eight being built and 120 stands available to buyers for re-sale.

“An interesting fact about Brackenridge is that the estate has its own water supply, which is supported by a first class water filtering and processing system. Soon residents will have access to pure, natural water right on their doorstep,” says Anley.

One of the properties on the estate being marketed my RE/MAX Prime Properties is a R3,2 million home with a spacious interior and open-plan layout. Situated on a 1000m2 stand with 350m2 of living space, the home offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms, under floor heating and great storage space. It has been built with entertainment in mind, so ample parking has been provided for visitors and a bar and large balcony has been incorporated in the design.

“With the amazing surroundings that Plettenberg Bay offers and the option of buying within a secure estate that encompasses the natural fauna and flora of the area, what more could property investors ask for?” asks Anley.
