Safe storage space for childrens care centre
Sunrise Special Care Centre in Cape Town now has a safe and secure storage
space, in the form of a revamped and repainted shipping container, thanks
to the fund for childrens welfare operated by the Harcourts Africa
real estate group.
The care centre is an NGO that cares for 35 children who are profoundly mentally and physically challenged and was in dire need of lockable storage space before leading southern suburbs agency Harcourts Model stepped in and arranged the purchase of a used container in good condition that would suit the purpose.
The purchase was made through the Harcourts Africa national fund for childrens welfare, to which every agent in the group contributes by donating a portion of their sales commissions.
In this way every home sale or purchase made through a Harcourts agency helps in a very direct way to meet the needs of South Africas abused, neglected, handicapped and orphaned children, says Harcourts Africa CEO Martin Schultheiss.
What is more, these needs are identified at local level by the Harcourts agencies operating in a specific region or zone, so that their contributions can be channelled back into their own areas and communities.
The fund has been in existence for almost 15 years and to date, the agents contributions have added up to millions of rands, which have been used to provide medicines, baby formula, clothes, beds, blankets, school fees, vehicles, specialised equipment and additional accommodation for many childrens homes and care centres around the country.
