Caledon, capital of the Overberg, and one of the seven oldest towns
in South Africa, lies at the foot of the Klein Swartberg. It is
known for its natural mineral waters, hot springs and wild flower
show.
Activities
Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa
An elegant hotel and spa graces the site of the hot water springs
offering the benefits of the spa water, casino, sporting facilities
and true country hospitality.
Caledon Museum
The heritage of the Caledon community is reflected in this artefact-filled
Victorian house.
Caledon Museum Shop
In the Town Hall. The shop stocks local products: arts, crafts,
dry flowers and home-baked goods.
Caledon Wild Flower Garden and Reserve
Most fynbos species as well as the famous Window Rock are to be
found here. There is a 10km walking trail but no drinking water
or overnight facilities.
Holy Trinity Church
Designed by S Gray, the church was consecrated in 1855.
Tours
Walking Tour Includes Mill Str, the first residential street in
Caledon and part of the old wagon road from Cape Town to Swellendam.
There are many buildings of architectural merit from Cape Dutch
to Victorian.
