Engel & Völkers wins at home and abroad

Ferdi de Lange receives his award from Christian Völkers

It's award season at Engel & Völkers South Africa! Ferdi de Lange, the company's Johannesburg license partner, recently attended the Engel & Völkers International awards ceremony, hosted by Christian Völkers at his Mallorca estate. De Lange was the winner of one of only five awards handed out each year, walking off with the award for the Best Shop Branding for the Village Walk, Sandton office. "I'm particularly proud of this award as Engel & Völkers' signature shops are one of the key factors that set us apart from other brands," says de Lange. Gustav Kruger was nominated for the Engel & Völkers Systems award, with the star-studded celebrations including special guest Michael Douglas and a rare performance by Roger Hodgson of 70s music legend, Supertramp.

Bringing the awards celebrations closer to home, Engel & Völkers South Africa hosted all of its agents and staff at a winter retreat, held in Clarens in the Free State. The annual Rewards and Recognition event, themed "A Winter's Tale," was created to highlight the achievements of license partners, property specialists and their support staff from all the Engel & Völkers South Africa offices.

While awards in twenty four categories were given to a number of the company's staff, there were a number of highlights. The Agriculture and Game Farms license holder took two awards, in addition to the coveted Money Maker of the Year, which went to Anton Visagie. "Our office also has the highest commission earned per property specialist, and we're excited to be playing such a significant role in one of South Africa's booming property markets," Visagie said.

Agents new to the business swept up awards, in clear demonstration of their passion for their new careers. Marie Erasmus of Centurion Gate won several awards, including Rookie of the Year (units sold), Most Exclusive Mandates Sold, and Agent of the Year (units sold), shared with Jana Vorster of the Waterkloof office. Verna Malyon of Ballito was Rookie of the Year (commission) and Agent of the Year (commission)

It wasn't just Engel & Völkers' team players that won at the event, however. At the launch of the event earlier this year, Engel & Völkers South Africa challenged all the Engel & Völkers South Africa offices to collect blankets to be distributed to the disadvantaged communities around Clarens, as infamous for its cold weather as it is famous for its beautiful scenery. Over 1000 blankets were donated by Engel & Völkers South Africa CEO, Niel Cronje on behalf of the company, warming the hearts of the Clarens community - literally and figuratively. "Our Clarens office is performing particularly well, and in keeping with our "Winter's Tale" theme, Clarens was the perfect location for us to take time out together, to recognise our colleagues' achievements, and to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than we are. We're glad that we could make such a significant contribution to the local people - thanks to the combined and somewhat enterprising efforts of all our license partners!" Cronje said.
