Social media enhances business success

One of South Africa’s sizzling new foodie blogs, www.simplydelicious.co.za, won the title of The RE/MAX Best New Blog at the 2010 SA Blog Awards, held at the One & Only Hotel on 25 September.

The SA blog awards are a showcase of the very best of South African blogs. Its purpose is to bring South African bloggers to the forefront of people’s attention, locally and internationally, thereby increasing exposure for South Africa's great bloggers.

Pretoria blogger, Alida Ryder, is thrilled to have won this title. Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, said the company sponsored this blog award as it believes in progressive technology and prides itself on being a technology leader in real estate.

The www.remax.co.za website is evidence of this. The site incorporates unique features such as categorised search functions which have been based around the way in which buyers search for properties. On the back of the successful launch of the new RE/MAX of Southern Africa website earlier this year, a RE/MAX blog, linked to the website, launched this month with Goslett and Chairman Peter Gilmour sharing their thoughts on a range of real estate topics.

“Social media is so much more powerful than most people realise: it is a medium that enables one to engage with the consumer on a more personal basis, “says Goslett.

In line with this thinking, RE/MAX of Southern Africa also held its own “Blog to Win” competition, an online campaign for the blogging community that tied in with the company’s national “Win a Room Makeover” competition. RE/MAX announced www.igeek.co.za as the winner of this competition on 6 October.

“There are many innovative and more engaging avenues that can be used by companies to connect with their consumers instead of just traditional above-the-line methods. Blogs are one of the best social media tools available to open up the conversation,” Goslett concludes.
