Community service elevates to new heights

RE/MAX Property Associates, who are one of the three resident agencies within the Sunset Links Golf Estate, situated in Sunset Beach, has gone all out to assist in a local community initiative.

Caron Leslie, Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Property Associates, explains: “Emilene Ferreira is a homeowner on the estate and is involved in fundraising for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Her desire to give back to this worthy organisation stemmed from when her grandson was badly burnt and spent a lot of time in the Burns Unit, at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital recovering. “

Emilene set a target to raise R100 000 specifically for the Burns Unit, which is in dire need of specialised equipment. Tackling Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro was Emilene’s first effort to raise funds and awareness for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Standing at an impressive 5895 metres above mean sea level (AMSL) or 19 298 feet from the base, it is also the fourth most prominent mountain in the world.

“Our resident agent on the estate, Jeanne Thompson, together with her business partner, Debra and their office manager, Chantal, decided to assist her in achieving this goal,” said Leslie. “They set out on a large scale community drive to create awareness among the Sunset Links residents around Emilene’s Kilimanjaro attempt, and to encourage the community to contribute towards her fundraising for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.”

On 21 July 2010, Emilene set out to take up her mountainous challenge and successfully summited Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak on 26 July 2010.

Comments Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa: “Estate agents form an integral part of any community, therefore it is fitting that they give back. RE/MAX of Southern Africa is proud to have agents who make such an effort to participate in worthy community initiatives such as this. Well done to Emilene for summiting the world’s highest freestanding mountain.”

Says Leslie: “Jeanne, Debra and Chantal will continue their campaign for Emilene through regular communication with the residents and hopefully more people will pledge money to this worthy cause.”
