Have Fun - South Africa's Easter Stamp Campaign

In South Africa the statistics show that 10% of our population has some form of a disability. Yet, the services, projects and support for Persons with Disabilities are still so few that one cannot help but wonder what we can do to make it more accessible, establishing more job opportunities and therapeutic services and help the rest of our population understand that Persons with Disabilities also have dreams, potential and so much to give once given the opportunity.

The mission of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa is to serve as a pro-active forum for the advancement of persons with physical disabilities so as to enable them to attain their maximum level of independence and integration into the community and the prevention of the occurrence of physical disablement.

For many years the Easter Stamp Campaign has been one of our most reliable fund raising campaigns nationally. Sheets with various designs of Easter Stamps were sold and all funds raised were allocated to projects and services for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa. With all the new technology of email and cell phones we realized that the Easter Stamps were not as popular as in the past. The National Council decided to give this Campaign a new image to restore its popularity and continue with this exciting and well known fund raising campaign.

Body Stamps instead of the Easter Stamps are now being used. Two or more body stamps are printed on a sheet and will be sold for R5-00. There are 6 different designs to choose from, each focusing on a different age and gender group. A new campaign identity was created. An Eagle Soaring over the sun with the slogan: Persons with Disabilities SOAR ahead, was chosen as our campaign identity. The Body Stamps will align with a theme every year and the theme for 2007 is: The Sea!! The Campaign launches on 15 February 2007 and will end on 31 April 2007.

The Provincial Associations for Persons with Physical Disabilities will be the beneficiaries of this Campaign. They will be marketing and selling these Body Stamps in their provinces. We are very excited about the new image of this Campaign and are confident that the Body Stamp designs will be very popular. They will also be challenging corporate companies to have a Body Stamp Day, where they stamp themselves to show their support towards Persons with Disabilities in South Africa.
