Record sale price for Parktown North
A gracious double-storey home in the Johannesburg suburb of Parktown North has been sold for R8,5m – a record price for the area.

The sale was negotiated by David and Theodora Brickhill, area specialists for Lew Geffen Sothebys International Realty, who say the price achieved has raised the bar for the suburb, where the previous record price was R8,2m – and that in a boom year.

The house has five luxurious bedroom suites, six reception rooms including a wine-tasting room and a poolroom, a designer kitchen with walk-in pantry and double staff accommodation.

Other special features include a double-volume entrance hall with “Gone with the Wind” staircase and underfloor heating throughout.

A north-facing entertainment area overlooks a salt-water pool set in 2344sqm of landscaped and irrigated garden with top-notch security. There are four garages and a complete second dwelling with its own pool and garage.

About Parktown North in general, Theodora Brickhill says its major attractions are a central position and relaxed atmosphere enhanced by quiet roads and tall trees.

“It is close to offices in Parktown, Sandton, Illovo and Rosebank as well as the additional shopping and entertainment venues in Hyde Park, Craighall and Parkview. It also has a number of trendy restaurants now and is increasingly popular with yuppie buyers.

“As a result, we are increasingly seeing large stands here being subdivided and older homes being demolished to make way for new houses with modern designs and finishes.”
