The
sport stadium at St Georges Park, conveniently nestled in the leafy
suburb of Park Drive in Nelson Mandela Bay, has been selected as the venue
of the Official FIFA Fan Fest. As such, it will act as the destination
for locals and tourists alike to converge in a central location before,
during and after the airing of the live football matches. The FIFA Fan Fest
will run from 11 June to 11 July 2010, acting as the base in which visitors
to the city may relax and enjoy all of the World Cup fever that Nelson Mandela
Bay has to offer.
This venue is designed to allow those avid football fans that could not
attend all of the games to meet in safe, central surrounds and enjoy live
broadcasts with friends and family. Big screens and hi-tech sound equipment
will guarantee optimal viewing to ensure that every goal is as rewarding
as if spectators were seated behind the posts. Every football match will
be aired live, providing the experience of viewing all 64 matches in true
African leisure and comfort.
Between
matches, fans will be well occupied at the Fan Park. Children and their
parents are encouraged to enjoy the entertainment and activities; all
guaranteed to provide an authentic African football experience. Food and
beverages will be available at the park, and visitors may prefer simply
to relax and enjoy the temperate African climate and rich culture. Entertainment
will comprise live musical performances as well as interactive activities
for the entire family.
The venue of the Official FIFA Fan Fest boasts a seating capacity
of 17 500 people and a pitch area of 16 000m². The Duckpond Pavilion
has 32 16 seaters and 5 19 seaters suites. This provides a total capacity
for about 30 000 fans. The stadium is situated in the central, yet exclusive
Park Drive neighbourhood. From here, the beautiful Eastern Cape beaches,
convenient accommodation and several major shopping centres are all within
a 15- to 30-minute drive. For added convenience, several shops and restaurants
are within walking distance from the park.
Some parking is available in and around the FIFA Fan Fest venue,
although using the official transport provided specifically for the 2010
FIFA World Cup is recommended to ensure shorter walking distances
and convenience. Security personnel and medical facilities will be present
during the Fan Fest to ensure that visitors to the park and to Nelson
Mandela Bay are as safe and secure as possible.
Nelson Mandela Bay promises its local and international football fans
a safe, fun and genuine African experience in the heart of this beautiful
coastal city.
