The Boschendal development team has learned that approval has
now been granted by the relevant authorities for the important
first phase of the project.
This will comprise 18 Founders Estates, measuring 21 to
44 hectares and priced from R20 million - most are covered in
vineyards and fruit trees.
The owners of each estate will be allowed to build a home on
a designated footprint covering 8 000m2, of which a controlled
percentage may be built structures. Every building site has been
subjected to rigorous scrutiny and amendments by SAHRA and others.
Owners will lease their farmland to the Boschendal farm management,
thereby gaining a farm in the Cape winelands without any of the
problems or financial responsibilities that usually go with such
a purchase. Owners will each have a one percent share in the winery
buildings (but not the winery business) and will have special
rights to owners reserve wines, with their names on the
Founders Estate owners will also each have a one percent
share in the Herbert Baker designed Cecil Rhodes cottage which
will become their clubhouse and guest accommodation.
Plots will be available for transfer in November. The Boschendal
team reports that interest in these estates has been very strong
and they are expecting to transfer the first estates in December
