Boschendal founder's estates get the green light

The Boschendal development team has learned that approval has now been granted by the relevant authorities for the important first phase of the project.

This will comprise 18 Founder’s Estates, measuring 21 to 44 hectares and priced from R20 million - most are covered in vineyards and fruit trees.

The owners of each estate will be allowed to build a home on a designated footprint covering 8 000m2, of which a controlled percentage may be built structures. Every building site has been subjected to rigorous scrutiny and amendments by SAHRA and others.

Owners will lease their farmland to the Boschendal farm management, thereby gaining a farm in the Cape winelands without any of the problems or financial responsibilities that usually go with such a purchase. Owners will each have a one percent share in the winery buildings (but not the winery business) and will have special rights to owners’ reserve wines, with their names on the bottles.

Founder’s Estate owners will also each have a one percent share in the Herbert Baker designed Cecil Rhodes cottage which will become their clubhouse and guest accommodation.

Plots will be available for transfer in November. The Boschendal team reports that interest in these estates has been very strong and they are expecting to transfer the first estates in December this year.
