Green Building Council of South Africa ensuring international exposure

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) was represented at this years World Sustainable Building (SB08) Conference, which took place in Melbourne from the 21st to the 25th of September 2008.

According to Bruce Kerswill, executive chairman of the GBCSA, the SB Conference, which is held every three years, is the summit gathering of the worlds leading technical experts and researchers on sustainable building with over 60 speakers, and more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific papers.

“This is a specialist conference with a large international reach and we were represented by our Technical Manager, Jason Buch, and our CEO, Nicola Douglas. The GBCSA also participated in the World Green Building Council’s twice-yearly meeting, which took place the day before the start of the SB08,” explains Kerswill.

“With participation from over 60 countries we were able to interact with specialist leaders from industry, governments and research communities worldwide, which enabled us to bring the latest thinking in sustainable development back to South Africa.”

Kerswill notes that the GBCSA is holding its own conference in Cape Town in November, and has secured 10 of the world’s top green building specialists to talk on a variety of different ‘green issues’. “We are expecting a big audience – it is going to be a stunning event!”
