Second Green Building Council Convention and Exhibition set for Oct 2009

The dates for the second Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) Convention & Exhibition have been set. Once again sponsored by Nedbank Corporate, this world-class event will be taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 21-23 October 2009.

The inaugural convention and exhibition took place in Cape Town in November 2008 and was an overwhelming success. High-profile keynote speakers from around the world presented local and international case studies, practical guidance on green building strategies and techniques, the costs and benefits of going green and achieving green building ratings in the green building movement worldwide and the role of the built environment in global warming to over-600 local delegates.

An exhibition with over 70 exhibitors showcased a range of products and services that assist in making a building green.

“The feedback was excellent, and people seemed to come away inspired and motivated. The green building movement has been gaining momentum in the mainstream property industry globally, and in the last year or two South Africa has seen a surge of corporates, developers, consultants and other members of the industry making a strong commitment to green building,” says Bruce Kerswill, executive chairman of the GBCSA.

This year’s event promises to be equally as powerful, with some of the world’s top green building experts again covering topics from the technical to the philosophical, and an excellent line-up of exhibitors.

“Delegates and exhibitors alike can look forward to an outstanding event. If you are a provider of a green building product or service you would do well to represent yourself at the exhibition and get exposure to a gathering of many of the industry’s major players and decision-makers. There are major business opportunities in the green economy, as the market appears to be concluding that only investments worth making in the current economic climate are sustainable ones,” concludes Kerswill.

The GBCSA is the official South African member of the World Green Building Council, has a membership of corporates from across the South African property industry and operates the Green Star SA green building rating system.
