Meet producer and presenter Teresa Alho – The Home Channel, My Makeover

As promised this week we introduce you to producer and presenter Teresa Alho as she visits the homes of every day South African’s listening to their renovation stories in one of The Home Channel’s new local series, My Makeover.

Born and raised in Cape Town Teresa is one of four children which make up her gregarious Portuguese family. Making home videos with her brothers and sister was a favourite past time and after matriculating in 2000 she left for the Eastern Cape to explore her interest in television making at Rhodes University.

With majors in Economics and Journalism Teresa graduated with an Honours degree in Television Journalism. A passion for editing and camerawork led her to Johannesburg where she got a job in a post-production house. But not for long…..soon she was working as an online writer for South Africa’s very first Big Brother production where she was able to make use her cyber publishing skills and knowledge acquired at University. The following year she worked as the Editor of a youth portal, JHBlive.com as well as for the Big Brother 2 website.

Having ended the year with a short holiday in London, she decided to re-explore her passion for television and was employed as a Business features producer at Summit TV in 2003. Producing proved to be extremely exciting and gradually she moved from producing business and technology stories to working on the channel’s fledgling programme, Weekend Property. While working on the then two hour show, her production manager encouraged her to move in front of the camera as well. ‘It wasn’t something I initially thought of doing, but did want to try one day.’ Teresa has worked as producer and field presenter on The Home Channel’s ‘Property Update’, ‘After Hours’, ‘African Living’ and ‘House & Leisure House of the Year’ shows.

The ability to use her creativity as well as meeting interesting and creative people is what she loves most about her job. And, when she’s not producing inserts on décor and design she likes to her express her creativity through fashion design and belly dancing.
