Investors on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) have been spoilt for choice with the listed property boom. The JSE says it has 51 property companies listed and the sector boasts a total market capitalisation of over R400 billion. Experts say the introduction of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT) has resulted in a wave of conversions of various property vehicles into this tax-efficient structure. According to research, this trend is in line with international developments, which has seen REITs gain significant prominence over the last few years. According to a recent report, statistics from house price indices compiled by banks are bandied about as though they are entirely accurate. Founded in 1886 after the two prospectors, namely John Jack from the farm of Germiston near Glasgow and August Simmer from Vacha in Germany struck gold in the area, leading to an establishment of the world's largest gold refinery, Rand Refinery in 1921.
