Property News - 26 November 2015

FROM THE EDITOR

Last week's rate hike brought on some mixed reactions from the property sector. Some believe the rate hike, although unexpected, was the correct decision and will curb unnecessary spending, particularly during the festive season, while others believe that the third increase in little over a year and the 8% to 11% increase in transfer fees will put immense strain on the housing market.

After one of the driest rainy seasons on record, South Africa is in the grip of a severe drought. This has placed a strain on water supplies across the country, affecting 2.7 million households. Chas Everitt International shares some water saving advice with us in Sellers utilise water saving improvements.

Engel & Völkers Southern Africa shares a "must-read" article with us for all first time buyers. In Get ready for your new home, you will read from what to look out for when buying a new home, what you need when applying for a loan, to a break down of the property registration process.

In Focus On this week we take a closer look at what is happening in the Menlo Park property market. Nestled between upmarket suburbs like Waterkloof, Lynnwood and Brooklyn, this gem in the Old East of Pretoria offers excellent value for money in a high value zone.

Enjoy!
