FROM THE EDITOR

Prices rose for the seventh consecutive quarter between June and September, but there are signs that the market is slowing. Oliver Knight examines the latest figures. For more on this story, read an article titled Tax concerns dampen demand for prime country sale.

Increasingly, institutional investors around the world are considering the environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts of their investments, as evidenced by the growth in PRI signatories in recent years.

The United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) call on investors to incorporate ESG factors into their investment processes. Assets under management by PRI signatories are now approximately USD 45 trillion, up from USD 4 trillion in 2006. In a piece titled Are new property owners liable for defaulters’ dues?; The North Gauteng High Court last month handed down a landmark decision that protects the purchasers of properties that were bought at a Sheriff’s sale or from an insolvent estate, from claims by a municipality for the previous owner’s municipal debts.

Findings reveal that Gauteng residents looking to holiday in Clifton and Bantry Bay on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard are prepared to fork out up to R50 000 a day for holiday homes over the festive season.
