Property News - 15 January 2015

FROM THE EDITOR

According to the analysts, property, financial and retail stocks would hold up the bourse this year. The reports indicate that for the JSE to have a good year, the economy needs a boost and this could come from some movement in the interest rates together with a rise in demand for commodities. For more of this story, read an article titled Outlook: High hopes for property, finance, retail.

Samuel Seeff, chairman of Seeff said on Tuesday that coming off five years of low growth on the back of tight economic conditions, 2014 saw the property market emerge from one of the toughest down-cycles. The market was on solid ground, with a good balance between demand and supply, and an increase in the demand side, which favoured sellers. For 2015, sellers should expect the buoyancy to continue, with plenty of buyers and good prices, said Seeff. Read Double digit' property increases predicted for more of this story.

Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona on Monday told stakeholders that one unexpected event at any of its power stations can push the country to the total failure of the national electricity system that may take weeks to resolve. For more of this story, read SA on the brink of a national black-out.

See an article titled “I told Eskom to take a hike” and learn how the former SABC television technical director Chris Prins invested in solar power and how being independent from the grid make him feel.
