Property News - 11 September 2014

FROM THE EDITOR

According to The World Bank, there is an expectation of rapid growth in Africa from now, 2014 until 2030 and many forward thinking business leaders intend to capitalise on that market share so to drive development on the continent. Evy Mahlaba, regional director of South African Tourism is one of those who want to claim a piece of this pie. She was quoted saying, "with continental travel patterns that indicate movement all year round, and a local trade with the potential to deliver, we can't underestimate the potential of the African travel market". For more of this story, read an article titled Africa is the next frontier.

There are uncertainties in the minds of some South Africans regarding the new government’s plans to limit foreign property ownership in the country. These misunderstandings, according to Berry Everitt, MD of the Chas Everitt International property group, are caused by the fact that Gugile Nkwinti, Rural Development and Land Reform Minister has never really explained the thinking behind the proposed new land legislation in public, even though it has been on the cards since at least 2011. Read an article titled, Land plan: Time to take a much closer look for more.

The latest statistics from BetterBond Home Loans, SA’s leading mortgage origination group, show that the interest rate increases announced in January and again in July are finally starting to have an effect on buying activity in the residential property market. For a full story, see an article titled Homebuyers start to put on the brakes.

We then take a closer look at a provincial capital of Mpumalanga that is snuggled amongst the beautifully flourishing Lowveld of the country. This historical town is also a gateway to the Kruger National Park and it's located on the North Eastern corner of South Africa at the banks of the Crocodile River. If you haven't guessed it yet, scroll down to the Focus on section of this Newsletter to find out which town we are actually talking about it.

Enjoy!
