Property News - 09 October 2014

FROM THE EDITOR

According to the reports, it is supposed to be easier and cheaper to deliver services, education and jobs to concentrated populations but over the last two decades urbanisation in South Africa has brought with it more bad than good and has contributed to the crisis the country is in now. Read anarticle titled SA's encroaching crisis for a full story.

Property owners have finally had enough of being bossed around by South Africa’s big retailers. The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), which represents the interests of shopping centre landlords and other big real estate owners. This story continues in an article titled Property owners urge Competition Commission action.

A very important yet unfamiliar requirement concerning properties registered in the name of a company was recently highlighted in a newsletter by attorney firm De Beer & Claassen. It has been said that all companies and close corporations are required by law to submit their annual returns with the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (“CIPC”) within 30 days of the anniversary date of its incorporation. For more of this story, see an article titled Legal requirements when registering a property in a company name.

Purchasing a property can be a rather complex process, not to mention the fact that it will likely be the largest financial investment that most people make. For few tips on the subject, read First four questions that every buyer should ask.

We then take a look at Hermanus, an official Whale Watching Capital of the World. Other than being a lively hub of all year activities in the Western Cape Province, this South African coastal city is the best land based whale watching in the world.

Enjoy!
