Property News - 08 January 2015

FROM THE EDITOR

Before we kick off our first Newsletter for the year, we would like to wish you a very happy and productive 2015. We hope the year ahead will be generous to you and your family.

According to the latest FNB House Price Index, 2014 wasn’t a bad year for the residential property market. With December’s House Price Index now compiled, the complete picture for 2014 becomes available. Average house price inflation for 2014 was slightly stronger than 2013, at 7.1%, compared to 2013’s 6.8%. For more of these statistics, read an article titled Residential Property Growth Forecast for 2015.

Still on the positive note, it has been reported that the value chaser investors in the FTSE/JSE South African property index (Sapy) coined it last year, as its returns grew over 20%, firmly entrenching the property sector’s status as a popular asset class. For more, read Listed property investors rake in returns in 2014.

In a draft discussion paper to formulate its position on principles, licensing and conditions for installation of small-scale renewable embedded generators, the Pretoria-based National Energy Regulator of South Africa was quoted as saying “there is growing interest from South African electricity customers to install rooftop photovoltaic systems in order to reduce their electricity bill and supplement their consumption”, This statement comes after a report that South Africa’s energy regulator is looking at a framework that would enable homes and businesses to receive credits for feeding surplus power they generate from rooftop solar panels back into the constrained electricity grid. For more of this story read an article titled South Africa Mulls Giving Credits for Rooftop Solar Electricity.

We then take a look at Johannesburg, a South African liveliest city. To learn more about this historical city, scroll down to the Focus on section of this Newsletter .

Enjoy!
