After the Government announced its radical shake-up of the land policy to limit foreign ownership on the 23rd of July, an issue of land reform has become a very hot topic in SA. According to the reports, Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti will introduce new legislation prohibiting foreigners from owning land in South Africa and limiting land sizes for all other owners in the country before the end of the year. Lanice Steward, managing director of Knight Frank Residential SA says that, although South Africa’s falling rand is currently giving Brits and Europeans a great opportunity to buy property in South Africa, with the current exchange rate at R18.15 to the British Pound and R14.37 to the Euro, the reality is that the impact has been too dramatic.
